30 More Marathons, Half-Marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks Near Seattle in 2012

By Kellee Bryan

In January, we posted a list of 30 marathons, half-marathons, 10ks and 5ks (and some other events thrown in for good measure) taking place in and around Seattle during the first half of the year. Now it's time for Part II to round out the year. And, since there have been some event additions and changes since the last list, I'm also reposting what's left of April, as well as May and June to give you a list as up-to-date as possible.

Since there are so many events in Western Washington, I've limited this list to only those races taking place in Seattle or in Seattle's closest neighbors (which I loosely defined as any city bordering Lake Washington). There's a very good chance I didn't catch them all, though, so let me know if I've missed anything and I'll update the list.

Carkeek 12-Hour – Seattle (Carkeek Park)
12 hours
Billed as "The hardest 12-hour out there. Period." And that's probably saying something, given that running for 12-hours straight is not likely to be easy anywhere. The race requires 8-hours of volunteer service for entry. (ANY volunteer work you want – it doesn't have to be associated with the race or the park or even trails in general.) If 8 hours of volunteer work isn't your thing, you can register via the "Lazy Entry" (money) option instead. Proceeds are split between Washington Trails Association, Agros International, The Seattle Public Library Foundation, and Seattle Humane Society. And, given the proximity to Halloween, your most excellent costume is invited to join you. Registration not yet available.

10/28/2012

11/4/2012
Get Your Rear In Gear – Redmond (Marymore Park)
5k
I initially assumed "get your rear in gear" was just a clever way to encourage people to get their butts off their couches. Turns out, it's far more clever (and far more literal) than I gave it credit for! Sponsored by the Colon Cancer Coalition, this event is focused on raising awareness about colon cancer. Registration not yet available.

11/24/2012
